Bio

"One of my favorite and best acts of the night was Jerusalem Road. I love Bluegrass/Gospel music they are the true roots of Rock-n-Roll. Jerusalem Road had six people on stage and they all had a part. I try not so say that “You need to go see these guys” but in this case I will. If you like Bluegrass or you just want to hear it for the 1st time I totally recommend seeing Jerusalem Road."  - Mike Martin of TrevorRocksDenver.com

Jerusalem Road is not your typical bluegrass band! Based out of Ft. Collins, Colorado, this seven member band delights audiences of all ages by taking them on a multifarious romp through both original and cover tunes that are uniquely rooted in bluegrass, country, and folk-rock style.  Using innovative acoustic strings, lightning fast fiddle licks, and impeccable vocal harmony to cover songs by artists like Allison Krauss, Nickel Creek, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, the band has also been known to incorporate interpretations of indelible rock anthems that leave audiences wanting more.

Combining their mad skills, artistic vision, and a commitment to creating a better world, Jerusalem Road has always been non-profit – giving proceeds from events in several states for ticket and CD sales, cash donations, and artist fees to such worthy organizations as Habitat for Humanity, the Larimer County Food Bank, Feeding South Dakota, and the Colorado Flood Foundation, just to name a few.  Along with performing for charitable events, festivals and venues large and small, band members willingly donate their time to foster the love of music, and an understanding of what a life as a musician can be.  They visit music classes, give students an opportunity to play with the band, and ask any questions they have been just itching to ask, but haven’t had the opportunity.

Jerusalem Road has big plans for 2014.  They will be recording an album of original music (some of which has already been performed to great acclaim), and some covers of tunes with the trademark JRoad style.  The band will be playing for a number of charity events and festivals, so be sure to keep an eye on the web site and Facebook for updates.

JRoad is made up of a group of musicians with many and varied talents:

Greg Fischer is the acknowledged bluegrass professor, on fiddle.  His experience, drawn from a life of study, competition, and even opera performance, has made him a powerhouse on stage.

Benjamin Haugestuen is the rock.  He both rocks the stage with his vocals, guitar, banjo, dobro, and mandolin, and rocks the band with his wealth of original songs.

Jana Anderson is the mandolin artist.  She plays intricate melodies, always with a smile.

Shawna Stratton is the face of JRoad.  With her impeccable vocals, she draws in her audience, and makes them fall in love with the band.

Susan Bennett brings the harmonies to another level.  With her background in classical piano, music theory and choral music, she binds it all up tight.

Dave Garrels provides warm vocals and solid rhythm guitar.  His songs are stories he tells, enthralling his listeners.

John Altringer is the patriarch.  At 79, he’s the “Dad” of the group (and Susan’s actual father).  He plays bass, guitar, and charms audiences with his performances of classic bluegrass, country and gospel songs.

Jerusalem Road is grateful for the blessings of making music and friends, and sharing their success with the community.  Look for opportunities to hear their music live, or acquire their recordings (both their previous releases of “Saturday Night” and “Sunday Morning”, and their upcoming project), and booking information on their website www.JerusalemRoadMusic.com.  You can also find their music on CD Baby
